The 80% Cabernet Franc-based Le Dôme is aromatically precise, nuanced and savory, yet also possesses remarkable richness. Bold and super-expressive, the 2014 hits all the right notes, deftly balancing intense fruit, lifted aromatics and precise, piercing minerality. This is a fabulous showing from Jonathan Maltus. Le Dôme is 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot.

Licorice, black plum liqueur, caramel and spice on the nose, this wine is concentrated with ripe tannins, minerals and a fresh, fennel, cocoa and black cherry finish. The wine was made from a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot reaching 13% alcohol with a pH of 3.71. 92-94 Pts

The Le Dôme 2014 is a blend of 80% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot picked on 17 October, the highest vintage of the former since 2008. It has a well-defined bouquet with hints of bell pepper infusing the black fruit, light flinty scents in the background, plus a touch of black truffle lending it a slight Pomerol-like personality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well balanced with good acidity and a silky texture. This is one of the more elegant vintages of Le Dôme that I have tasted at this juncture with a extended length that lingers in the mouth long after the wine has exited. The season favored Cabernet Franc on the Right Bank and this has the highest percentage, so there is a foundation for a great Saint Emilion. Maybe I would have opted for a shorter cuvaison to gain more precision on the finish, nevertheless, this should give 15 to 20 years of drinking pleasure, possibly longer.

Made with 80% Cabernet Franc. Possibly the most elegant and poised Le Dôme to date. Vibrant, perfumed nose with blueberry, cassis and violet notes. Pure and fresh on the palate with finely grained tannins. Lovely balance and tremendous length. Drink: 2022-2035 (95)

Sweet with medium focus and density and slightly sweaty fruit. Bloody concentration of fruit and fairly tough on the end. Rather tired on the finish.

Excellent core of ripe fruit with firm tannins, bright acidity and a very good finish. Plenty of minerals with spice character.

Profiting from a superb year for Cabernet Franc, this wine has a wonderful perfumed character of exceptional black fruits. The wine is laced with tannins that flow strongly through the wine. It is serious, complex and ageworthy.

17/20 2020 – 2036
