Lalande Borie - Saint-Julien 2014

Château Lalande-Borie was created by Jean-Eugène Borie in 1970. It occupies thirty hectares (25 of which are planted with vines), on the western plateau of the St-Julien AOC area, which it shares with several Famous wines of Saint-Julien. This Lalande Borie 2014 will be raised 12 months in Bordeaux barrels including 30% new wood and the balance in barrels of a wine (12months). Oaks of certified French origin, natural drying in outdoor park, minimum 3 acres guaranteed. Regular cleaning during the first 6 months, racking every 2 or 3 months for a total of 4. Sterile bottling under inert gas. Natural cork stopper 49mm.

Fruits noirs, bouche ronde, souple, veloutée, un peu plus de milieu de bouche que d’habitude. Travaillé par l’équipe de Ducru-Beaucaillou, sols sableux.

The 2014 Lalande-Borie is a good choice for drinking young, as it is already quite open, with lovely plumpness and juiciness throughout. New leather, spice, red plum and lavender overtones are woven into the super-expressive, inviting finish. This is a great introduction to proprietor Bruno Borie's 2014s. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc.

Medium-bodied, soft and fresh, this wine has notes of blackberry and cocoa and is already showing its open personality. This should be ready to drink on release. 88-90 Pts

The Château Lalande-Borie 2014 is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that will be matured for 12 months in 30% new oak. It has a slightly high-toned bouquet with small dark cherries and cold stone scents, perhaps not quite as complex as the Fourcas-Borie. The palate is medium-bodied, a little coarse on the entry although there is fine acidity. I find the tannins a little more refined on the Fourcas-Borie this year, though there is a pleasant saline tang on the finish. Perhaps it will merit a more favorable evaluation after bottling.

Western St-Julien. Younger vines go into other labels such as Hortevie so it’s already a selection. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc. 125 days' growing season. 12 months in 30% new barrels.
Very interesting nose with black pepper and emphatic flowers. Notably perfumed and smooth on the palate. Tannins insist on the end. Just a little inky on the end but gorgeous upfront. Good persistence.

Fresh, lively fruit with morello cherry, blackberry and cedar. A round, full-bodied red that is made up of 45% Merlot, the rest being Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This is a wine filled with freshness.

Fine density of supple, ripe St-Julien fruit, quite meaty but elegant and impressive. Drink: 2018-2026 (89)

Lots of oyster shell and iodine and currant character with seaweed. Full to medium body, an excellent center palate and a long finish. Fantastic.

91–93. Barrel Sample. This wine has the dusty tannins that are typical of the vintage. Ripe red plums and berries are combined with refreshing acidity on the palate, and lead to a structured and dense finish.
