The 2021 Château Rol Valentin comes from the eastern portion of the appellation, near Château Valandraud, and it's 79% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Malbec. This deep purple-hued effort offers lots of plum and exotic peach and blue fruits, notes of loamy earth and chocolate, medium-bodied richness, soft tannins, and a charming, ready-to-go style that will drink well right out of the gate.

Rol Valentin 2021 is less aromatic than its previous vintages, mainly with aromas of plum, clove, and cinnamon. But the wine delivers a profound structure that is rarely found in the vintage of 2021 and retains an excellent tannic texture on the finish. From this, one can see the winemaker's master of the clay-limestone slope (more clay) terroir. Look forward to seeing how it performs after aging. The 2021 Rol Valentin has a lifted, quite floral nose, not as complex as the 2019 or 2020, though it is nicely focused. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry with gentle grip and fine acidity. A little oaky on the midpalate, with a somewhat predictable yet not unattractive finish. Fine.

The 2021 Rol Valentin is a very pretty wine. Dark cherry/plum fruit, mocha, new leather and spice are nicely pushed forward. Naturally, the 2021 doesn't quite have the textural resonance of recent vintages It's a wine to appreciate for its aromatics and mid-weight structure.

Another promising wine, the 2021 Rol Valentin exhibits aromas of cherries, berries and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, seamless and lively palate that's nicely concentrated, concluding with a sapid finish. It's produced from holdings situated on iron-rich clay soils next to Valandraud and supplemented by Malbec from a parcel near Figeac.
