As it so often is, Haut-Marbuzet is wild, exotic and powerful. Smoke, mint, leather and red berry fruit are some of the many notes that open up in the intense, pungent bouquet. There is an untamed quality to Haut-Marbuzet that distinguishes it from its peers. Readers should expect an eccentric wine with a lot of nuance and character.

The 2015 Haut-Marbuzet is medium garnet-purple in color with a nose of plums, cassis and spice box with earth and herbs hints. The firm and lively mouth offers good expression and an earthy finish.

Not nearly as oaky as this wine used to be, it has generous, ripe, dry tannins with enough bright black-fruit character to balance things out. Better from 2019 and at least a decade of potential after that.

The 2015 Haut Marbuzet is a blend of 40% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, plus 5% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. There is something a little static on the nose this year, surprising given that it tends to be one of the more lascivious primeur samples. The palate is sweet on the entry, but there is a lack of structure here and it seems to run out of ideas towards the finish. It is balanced and fresh, but missing some depth and grip in the mouth. Probably an earlier drinking Haut-Marbuzet.

Elégant, fruité souple, profond, joli fraîcheur. Grande onctuosité mais aussi grande fraîcheur. On sera étonné de l’élégance immédiate de la texture et de la saveur, s’expliquant en partie par l’intégration des superbes cabernets francs du millésime dans l’assemblage, alors qu’ils allaient dans un second vin dans les millésimes précédents. Un sommet des crus non classés.

One of the positive surprises of the year, Henri Duboscq's 2015 Haut-Marbuzet offers striking depth and density, especially within the context of the year. Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, menthol and licorice meld together. As always, Haut-Marbuzet is distinguished by its exotic aromatics and racy personality. This is a very strong effort at its level.

Barrel Sample. This is a bold and structured wine, with dense tannins that just hint at the ripe black-currant fruits that hide behind. Firm and dark, it will likely develop slowly and with a dry edge always to the fore. 92 points

Intensives Bouquet, Amarenakirschen, Rosenpfeffer, ein Hauch Grenadine zeigt die Süsse an. Im zweiten Ansatz Gebäcknoten und Schwarzbrotkruste. Im Gaumen schier dropsig, feine Pfeffernoten im Extrakt, feinsandiger Zungenfluss. So typisch Saint Estèphe. Kraft und auch etwas Arroganz. 17/20 2022 – 2043

Excellent young red with a solid core of fruit and chewy tannins. Lots of mineral and black berry character. Hints of spices.
