Le Point 16,5-17 / 20 par Jacques Dupont le 20/06/2018 Fruits rouges, burlat, tendu, bien enrobé, pulpeux, tanins fins, un petit côté strict, bel équilibre, fait saliver, très long, poivré en finale.
Jeb DUNNUCK 86-88 / 100 par Jeb Dunnuck le 12/06/2018 The 2017 Château Talbot is solid and offers a charming, medium-bodied, nicely concentrated profile. It has classic black and blue fruits, hints of damp earth and tobacco, ripe tannin, and nicely integrated acidity. This is a classic, well-made Saint-Julien.
Vinous 88-91 / 100 par Antonio Galloni le 15/05/2018 The 2017 Talbot is powerful and dense, but also a bit rough around the edges, with burly tannins that add to that impression. It will be interesting to see if the 2017 acquire more finesse during aging. Based on the wine's persistence, there is a reasonably good chance that will happen. Intense blue/black fruit, gravel, smoke and licorice add to the wine's dark personality. Tasted two times.
The Wine Cellar Insider 90-92 / 100 par Jeff Leve le 11/05/2018 Bright red fruit, crisp tannins, thyme, tobacco and cedar notes lead the way to a medium/full bodied, crisp wine with an earthy edging to the leafy, black currants in the finish.
Vinous 90-92 / 100 par Neal Martin le 01/05/2018 The 2017 Talbot was picked from 18 to 4 October using manual and optical sorting, matured in 50% new oak. It has a relatively light but well-defined, floral bouquet, pressed flower filtering through that blackberry and boysenberry scents, a little clove and bay leaf lending complexity as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin that frame the slightly savory black fruit, just a little earthiness developing towards the finish. It is a classic Talbot really, exactly what you would expect for the vintage.
Wine Advocate 87-89 / 100 par Lisa Perrotti-Brown le 27/04/2018 Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Talbot is a little closed on the nose with subtle plums and blackberries notes plus hints of underbrush, black olives and wood smoke. Medium-bodied with a firm frame of chewy tannins, it has lovely freshness and a savory finish.
Decanter.com 89 / 100 par Jane Anson le 25/04/2018 Talbot has produced an elegant, fresh and carefully structured 2017. This has plenty of finesse and rich black fruit flavours with some floral notes and cedar. It shows great St-Julien balance, but again just lacks a little of the impact that has been evident at this property over recent vintages. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038
Wine Enthusiast 91-93 / 100 par Roger Voss le 17/04/2018 Dry tannins and bright fruit promise it will be an attractive, balanced wine as it ages relatively quickly. The dry core should soften to make room for the black currant flavors. Drink from 2023.
Jamessuckling.com 92-93 / 100 par James Suckling le 06/04/2018 This is solid and structured with blackberry and currant character. Full-bodied, muscular and dialed-in.
Wine Spectator 90-93 / 100 par James Molesworth le 04/04/2018 Solid, with currant and plum fruit at the core flanked by focused, chalky tannins. Savory and tobacco notes score the finish. A touch austere but shows impressive drive.—J.M.
