Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Langoa Barton has a lifted nose of small dark cherries, blackberry, incense and marmalade - quite showy for Langoa Barton - but there is joie-de-vivre here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, ripe and demonstrating impressive density plus a firm grip. This really coats the mouth in tannin, although it is still balanced. It just needs another 4-5 years in bottle, the stubborn little lady. Tasted January 2016.

Shows violet and blackberry, with hints of raisin. Full and velvety, with lovely-textured tannins and plenty of ripe fruit on the finish. Balanced and rich. Best after 2013.

This tastes more like a Pauillac than a St.-Julien with its big, beefy, tannic overlay and aromas and flavors of black currants, asphalt, leather, and damp earth. Tannic, full-bodied but almost impenetrably closed and broodingly backward, this is a long-term prospect for those with patience. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2030+. 89+

Good ruby-red. Pungent aromas of currant, licorice, cedar and chocolate; more complex than the 2007. Sweet, nicely delineated flavors of currant, black cherry and chocolate. Finishes with substantial but ripe tannins and very good length. Today this shows considerably more vinosity than the young 2007.

De très belle tenue, Langoa Barton n'a cependant pas le raffinement de Léoville mais il possède un très joli corps, avec une matière serrée, mais expressive, et une belle race.

Kräftiges Rubingranat, violette Randaufhellung. In der Nase zart vegetal unterlegtes Cassis, etwas Tabak und Orangenzesten. Am Gaumen etwas weitmaschig, zarter Honigtouch, die Tannine trocknen tendenziell etwas aus, bleibt eher kurz.

2016-2040. Sehr dunkles, sattes Purpur mit schwarzen Reflexen. Cassis, Brombeeren, dunkle Edelhölzer, nobel und tiefgründig, von der Nase her zu den besten St-Juliens gehörend. Im Gaumen alles fein ausgerichtet, stützende, reife Tannine, ausgeglichene Adstringez, dann doch noch etwas fester zupackend, aromatisches Finale. Wieder ein ganz grosser Langoa, wie schon in vergangenen Jahren, und kaum jemand merkt es.

Much like its more famous sibling, Leoville Barton, the 2006 Langoa Barton is a heady, ripe, dense, tannic, powerful wine possessing a deep ruby/purple color as well as aromas of underbrush, damp earth, creme de cassis, and licorice. Rich, layered, and impressive, it will be drinkable between 2013-2030.

Prise de bois un peu rustique, avec de fortes notes de créosote, alourdissant pour le moment un peu trop les arômes de cèdre sous-jacents, grande sève, grand tannin, belle énergie et certainement une remarquable aptitude au vieillissement !

Tasted at the UGC. One of my perennial favourites, this does not disappoint even though the nose is just a little too lean for my liking. The palate shows greater promise with ample black fruits, a supple, lithe texture and like Léoville Barton, a surprising amount of grip and persistency. Perhaps not a subtle wine, much more sinewy than recent Langoa’s, a wine that wants to emulate and perhaps even surpass its big brother. It will not do that this year…but it will come close, no doubt at its usual very reasonable price.

The tannins are dry, but the most important element to this wine is the fresh, black plum flavored fruit. It fills the palate, a ripe counterpoint to the dryness of the fruit. —R.V.

Very dark crimson. Fresh glossy black cherry aromas. Very well balanced and gracious on the front palate with a nice fragrant dry, racy style. This could easily be Langoa [as indeed it was – I do try not to guess when tasting but this just swamped me with identity]. Very dry finish but not drying. Lift and grace. Just falls away very slightly on the finish. Bone dry – no tarty sweetness.

Disons le tout de suite, je préfère le 2006 au 2005. Le fruit, ainsi que le tanin, me paraissent plus mûrs et la finale possède plus de longueur. À l'évidence, ce 2006 n'a pas été vendangé trop tôt comme le 2005. Je l'ai goûté deux fois avec le même plaisir. Coloré, il offre un nez fin, fruité, pur, légèrement cacaoté. Le vin est délicieux en bouche, tout en rondeur et douceur tactile. Il offre un beau moelleux, de la suavité, des tanins fins et aromatiques. Bonne longueur.
