There is something in the aromatics and flavors of Gazin's 2000 that seems similar to Petrus (the vineyards are adjacent). Hints of caramel intermixed with black cherry, mineral, and licorice notes compete in this full-bodied, attractive, ripe but firmly structured wine. There is plenty of depth, weight, and richness, but again, several years of cellaring are essential. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2018.

Interesting aromas of dried herbs and prunes. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and tomato and herb in the finish. Picked slightly too early?

The 2000 is not a blockbuster, but it possesses excellent fruit, medium to full body, plenty of toasty oak, and notes of dried herbs, saddle leather, and cassis with a hint of licorice. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2016.

Gazin's 2000 is a stern, hard style. Notes of new oak, saddle leather, plums, black cherries, and cassis are noticeable underneath the heavy overlay of wood and structure. This is a muscular, concentrated, powerful wine with fine purity and richness. If everything comes together, it will merit an outstanding score, but it is no sure thing. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020.
