Wine Spectator 92 / 100 par James Molesworth le 05/02/2019 This has an exotic hint, with warm fig and boysenberry compote flavors forming the core, along with a healthy dose of licorice root, roasted apple wood and sweet tobacco notes. Features a slightly woodsy texture but the fruit keeps pace, ending with an echo of incense. Best from 2022 through 2031. 2,833 cases made. –JM
Jamessuckling.com 92 / 100 par James Suckling le 04/02/2019 Rich and dark, blood-orange and red-fruit aromas with a deep-set array of quite ripe and rich tannins that carry well into the plum-soaked finish. Attractive build and depth here. Try from 2021.
Wine Advocate 89-91 / 100 par Neal Martin le 02/05/2017 The 2016 Chateau Fayat has a clean and well-defined bouquet with black cherries and blackcurrant fruit, the oak nicely integrated and showing more sophistication than some of the wines from the noughties from this estate. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly angular entry, a crisp line of acidity and fine salinity towards the finish. It might miss some of the length of its peers, but there is plenty of freshness and vigor on this Pomerol.
The Wine Cellar Insider 89-87 / 100 par Jeff Leve le 27/04/2017 Licorice, smoke and cherry liqueur scents on the nose bring you to a medium bodied, red berry, olive-oriented wine. With a quick touch of herbs to complicate matters. The wine was made from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and reached 14% alcohol.
Vinous 87-89 / 100 par Antonio Galloni le 26/04/2017 The 2016 Fayat is deep, powerful and earthy. There is good depth to the jammy red fruit, but wilder, gamy notes detract from the wine's balance. I don't see a lot of charm today.
Decanter.com 92 / 100 par Jane Anson le 24/04/2017 Fayat combines the freshness of the vintage with beautifully deep, vibrant red fruits. Lovely persistency and elegance, showing restraint despite the 50% new oak. Merlot vines over 100 years old planted on gravel make up 10% of the blend, which overall is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. 3.7pH. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040
Wine Spectator 89-92 / 100 par James Molesworth le 10/04/2017 The solid core of raspberry and plum fruit is inlaid with a juicy anise note. A light twinge of singed apple wood gives the finish a firm hint, but the fruit is plenty vivacious.—J.M.
Jamessuckling.com 91-92 / 100 par James Suckling le 05/04/2017 A rich and ripe red for the appellation with round and juicy tannins and a fleshy balance of fruit. Nice one.
