Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois annual tasting, the 2015 Clement Pichon put in a vexing performance after what was a worthy showing out of barrel. Here in bottle it lacked brightness and felt rather flat on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied but shows some aggression on the mid-palate, while the finish is dry and mealy. This feels excessively pushed during the barrel maturation. Tasted September 2017.

Round and flattering on the nose. Lots to get your teeth into without its being too sweet – despite all that Merlot. Really very well done. Already very satisfying.

The 2015 Clement Pichon is a blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc that was picked from September 21 until October 7 at 47 hectoliters per hectare, delivering a reasonable alcohol of 13.5%. It has a dense, powerful bouquet fueled by that Merlot - lush ripe black cherries and blueberry fruit, the 40% new oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied, nicely balanced, perhaps one of the freshest Clement Pichon that I have tasted in recent vintages, with a lively, almost sorbet-like finish. This Haut-Médoc is worth looking out for as I can imagine this drinking well for 12-18 years. Drink 2022-2038

Very dark crimson. Fleshy and fresh on the nose. Lively and a bit of a ballerina. Definitely lightish but lissom rather than skinny. Rather dry end. Starts well though. Drink 2022-2030

Barrel Sample. This is a ripe, juicy wine that has rich tannins for support. The berry-fruit flavors are generous and open, although the wine also has a firm structure. It has just the right amount of acidity at the end. 93 points

Extrem dunkles Purpur mit lila und violetten Reflexen. Geniales, konzentriertes, süss ausstrahlendes Fruchtbouquet, viel Amarenakirschen und Cassis, dunkle Röstnoten. Im dichten, fülligen Gaumen ein Ausbund von Süsse, dunkles Malz, Lakritze und Black Currant im druckvollen Finale. Der Wein war letztes Jahr schon eine Sensation und heuer wieder. Gehört zu den besten Médocwerten! Wer kein Snob ist, muss da kaufen. 18/20 2022 – 2039
