Tasted at the IMW horizontal at Vintners Hall. Once again, this is very subdued on the nose, a touch of hawthorn and sand but not the stoniness or none of the Alpine streams than usually run wild through Anne-Claude’s best Pulignys. The palate is medium-bodied, refined on the entry with touches of spice, lanolin and a touch of clear honey, nice weight and length with a bitter lemon element on the finish. It lacks breeding, it lacks mineralite, it tastes flat. Tasted March 2009.

The balance of this wine is what makes it so impressive. Spice and yellow fruit intermingle effortlessly. There is a core of tight, coiled steel, like a spring, which gives minerality along with the richness. At the end, acidity lifts the wine, finishing with freshness as well as intensity.

Dense and dry and reserved on the nose. Really quite dry and aggressive rather than the rich stereotype of Bâtard. This is a Bâtard that goes by sheer muscle. Still lots of chew. Jancis Robinson

Solid and compact right now, this is a powerful, concentrated white, showing a chalk flavor under the butter and apricot. Gathers speed across the palate, building to a long finish. Needs time to integrate and realize its full potential. Best from 2011 through 2024.
