Diane de Belgrave - Belgrave Castle - Haut Médoc 2013
Diane is the second wine of Château Belgrave. Its name comes from the link between the wine and the hunt: under Louis XV, the castle was famous for the abundant game of its woods and for the receptions given to the castle during the hunting season. Diane de Belgrave benefits from the same viticultural works and the same equipment in the cellars as the first wine. Mostly from the youngest vines, Diane is a fruity wine, supple and finely tannic, which can be tasted younger than the first wine. After several years of significant water deficit, 2012 started with an exceptional rainfall, fortunately well absorbed on the soils of deep bass, filtering, Belgrave. Experience and patience have been our guides; we remained alert, reasoning the work in the vineyard according to the sanitary pressure generated by a disturbed weather. The 2013 vintage: The weather, cool and rainy until June, then the high temperatures of the summer, caused a marked heterogeneity between the grape varieties and a regular and constant growth of the vegetation, mobilizing the teams relentlessly from May to September: careful leafing, targeted cutting, in order to aerate the bunches and optimize maturation, constant vigilance to the vineyard to maintain a good sanitary condition, elimination of heterogeneous clusters. An investment of every moment, combined with a severe sorting of the harvest both in the vineyard and in the winery - the new pendulum grater, which respects the integrity of the shakes and further limits the plant elements has further improved the efficiency of the sorting. final manual - were this year's key to success.
