The 2013 Petit Village has an uncomplicated bouquet with blackberry, cedar and iodine scents, quite floral in style with a hint of wilted violet petals. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline entry, crisp and quite firm tannin, a little compact towards the finish, but nicely focused. This is a decent, short-term Pomerol from the AXA-Millésime group, though it has no ambitions towards longevity.

Aromas of blueberry, blackberry. Some berry and dark chocolate. Medium body, delicate tannins and a delicious finish. Pleasant bitterness and chewiness at the finish. Drink now.

A one-dimensional, elegant, but unsubstantial effort, this light- to medium-bodied 2013 reveals plummy mocha and black cherry fruit, but not much of it. The wine falls off on the palate, and should be consumed over the next 4-5 years.

(70% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon; 60% new oak):  Dark ruby.  Rich black cherry and cocoa on the deep nose, along with a grapey nuance.  Then fairly rich and dense on the palate, with almost creamy dark berry and mocha flavors.  Finishes leafy and aromatic in the 2013 fashion, with youthfully chewy but ripe tannins.

The on-going improvements at this château continue under technical director, Marielle Cazaux. Oaky, flavoursome and savoury, this is a bold Pomerol, sourced from the older half of the vineyard, showing tannins that will need time to soften in bottle.

(70 Merlot, 20 Cabernet Franc, 10 Cabernet Sauvignon) Using old vines (50+ yrs). The Cabernet Sauvignon element in this wine sticks out a little and it looks a bit grumpy and a touch sour. They are coming close to adding the younger vines to this wine because they are performing so well, but due to the difficulties in 2013 they stuck with the old vine material. Granted that this adds structure and horsepower to the wine, but also makes it a little more soy saucy and dark. Good but quite butch. Perhaps this is a year to go for the second wine Jardin (q.v.) if the price works out.

The 2013 Petit-Village fleshes out nicely in the glass. There is good depth and intensity to the fruit, even if some slightly angular contours remain. Crushed flowers, raspberries and sweet aromatic spices add nuance on the finish. It will be interesting to see how the 2013 develops over the coming year. Right now there is a battle between the juiciness of the fruit and the slightly drying tannins. The blend is 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2013, production is down a whopping 50%. Tasted three times.

A success for the vintage. Supple texture. Fresh and harmonious. Cabernet (30%)  shows. Fine, long persistent tannins. A château hitting its stride these  days.

Pur et assez épicé au nez, avec des arômes de cèdre originaux plutôt typiques du cabernet, mais ici apportés par les merlots. Rond, assez riche en texture, net, droit. Un autre échantillon se goûtait bien plus fatigué deux jours avant.

I like the texture to this, with a fresh-fruit character. Full body, silky tannins and an orange-peel and raspberry character. Lively finish. 70% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 10% cabernet sauvignon.

Tiefes Purpur.

Open, with a soft core of blueberry and cherry preserves, backed by a modest vanilla note on the finish. —J.M.

Full of fresh black-currant character, this is an attractive, fruity wine. It has a light structure, with intense acidity, resulting in a perfumed wine that should age well over the medium-term.
