This was one of the first serious new wines from Pédesclaux. A full body with racy tannins and bright acidity. Tight still. Lots of cabernet character. Better in 2016.

Recent signs of improvement in Pedesclaux are apparent in this opaque ruby/purple-hued 2011. For example, much lower yields (33 hectoliters per hectare in 2011) a final blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot, and much greater ripeness (14.5% alcohol) are reasons for this dramatic turnaround. Clean, pure notes of black currants, black cherries, spice and earth are found in this medium-bodied, well-endowed (especially for a 2011), impressive, well-made Pauillac. The finish is long, silky and authoritative. Drink now-2022.

A very polished, refined wine with fine tannins and berry and wet-soil character. Full body. Classy finish. Better in 2017.

Fresh, ripe and rounded, with engaging plum and cherry fruit notes, well-integrated toast and a friendly, licorice-coated finish. A bit shy on grip in the end. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2019. 17,500 cases made.

O= 2017 G= 15 ans

Bright, deep red. Red cherry, licorice and coffee on the nose. The palate offers good spicy intensity to the dark berry and cedar flavors. A slight leafiness carries through the moderately persistent finish, which shows building cedar and herbal qualities.

Elegant black currant, camphor and loamy soil notes intermixed with hints of ink and toasty oak are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine displaying beautiful purity. Fashioned from a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that hit 13% natural alcohol, this 2011 may turn out to be better than the 2009 and 2010. Drink it over the next 15 years. One of the great underachievers of all times, this classified growth was purchased by Jackie Lorenzetti in 2009, and Emmanuel Cruse (proprietor of d’Issan) has been overseeing the vinification and upbringing of the wine. The result is that Pedesclaux is beginning to make qualitative noises for the first time in my 30+ year career.

Blending 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 12.83% alcohol. This is the second vintage to feature more Cabernet Sauvignon due to newly purchased vines. Consulted by Emmanuel Cruse from Chateau d’Issan in Margaux, the wine offers cedar wood, gravel, pepper and cassis. One of the most obscure classified growths in the Medoc, Curse decided on a more stringent selection for the wine. Opening with earth, cassis and spice, this medium-bodied wine ends with crisp cassis. 88-89 Pts

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, to be honest, I find that Pedesclaux a little overdone on the nose with blackcurrant, chalk and a touch of dates. The palate has a juicy entry with grainy tannins with plump blackberry and boysenberry fruit, although I find it does not quite follow through on the finish. Not bad, but better to come. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Tasted April 2012

A ripe, plush, modern style, with a ganache note leading the way for crushed plum, blackberry and currant pâte de fruit notes. Lots of briar and anise on the finish lends a grippy feel. Rock-solid. An estate rapidly on the rise.—J.M.

This is dense and chewy with super polished tannins with minerals, blueberries and raspberries. Full and dense with a tight structure and a long finish. Good see this estate make serious wine in a difficult vintage.
