Unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet blackberries and raspberries mingled with hints of rose petal and spices, the 2020 Mondot is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a pure, seamless core of vibrant fruit and a long, succulent finish. Derived from Merlot growing on recently acquired vineyards on Saint-Émilion's limestone plateau, some 40% of the blend is matured in tank, with the rest in once-used barriques.

All Merlot from limestone soils, brought up in a mix of once-used barrels and tank, the 2020 Château Troplong Mondot Mondot sports a dense ruby hue as well as a gorgeous bouquet of pure black cherries, smoked tobacco, chalky earth and hints of tobacco. This beauty is medium to full-bodied, has an elegant, seamless mouthfeel, and a great finish.

The 2020 Mondot is an absolute delight. Freshly cut flowers, blood orange, sage, mint and rose petal accents are all laced together in this sensual, mid-weight Saint-Émilion. Mondot, 100% Merlot from limestone soils, is terrific. Aging is 60% in wood and 40% in tank, which also helps maintain energy.

The 2020 Mondot comes from the new parcels acquired by the estate of pure Merlot on limestone soils. Around 40% of the élevage was in tank. It has quite a fresh, precocious bouquet, with black plum and a touch of licorice, powerful and wanting to make an impression. The palate is medium-bodied with a soft texture, open and easygoing but with plenty of depth. The aging in tank plays a role here, rendering the finish pliant and accessible. Not long-term, yet quite delicious.

The 2020 Mondot is everything a second wine should be - plump, juicy and inviting. Dark cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and tobacco all meld together nicely. Time in the glass brings out a bit more nuance, as hints of wild flowers and raspberry add brightness. This is nicely done.

The 2020 Mondot has a well-defined nose of pretty brambly red fruit, briar and hints of wild mint. The palate is medium-bodied with relatively light tannins, but as fresh as a daisy. A light pepper note infuses the red fruit toward the finish, which is almost reminiscent of the Loire. Good salinity here. This is a fine Deuxième Vin from Troplong-Mondot.

This sets out its stall as a wine from a specific plot of pure limestone soils straight away, and this is a second wine to savour. As with last year, this is a masterclass in the impact of this particular soil type, with a bright violet colour, juicy blueberry fruits and touches of redcurrant. It has a tingling finish with a whoosh of salinity that gives tension and balance. 30% aged in barrels, the rest stays in stainless steel. 3.53pH. Still 100% Merlot as last year, but that will probably change in 2021 when some Cabernet Franc should be added. Not sold as an En Primeur, the 2018 has just been released onto the market. September 4 was the first day of picking.

Très cassis, crème de cassis, violette, très beau nez de cerise noire. Magnifique éclat. Légèrement épices à l'aération. En bouche, belle complexité, très grande fraicheur, une densité relativement importante et un peu terrienne et terroir froid. Croquant et juteux, très belle acidité pour un Mondot tout en rondeur juteuse. Pas de crémeux ici mais un grain de tanin tendu, calcaire et frais. Finale aérienne et mentholée. Très beaux amers finaux. Un grand Mondot. Superbe !

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, breitere Randaufhellung. Noch etwas zurückhaltend, dunkle Beerenfrucht, zart nach Kirschen und Nougat. Saftig, ein Hauch von Feigen, aber auch roten Beeren, feine, reife Tannine, frisch strukturi- ert, weißer Pfeffer im Nachhall.
