The 2018 Baron de Brane offers ripe red currant and cranberry fruit and hints of cedar and black pepper on a nose that is fuller and more generous than recent vintages. The medium-bodied palate displays fine-grained tannins. This is lighter than expected, but well balanced, with a pure, almost Burgundian finish. Fine, though I do not see it as a long-term Deuxième Vin.

The 2018 Baron de Brane is rich and luscious in the glass. Succulent red cherry and ripe red plum fruit are pushed forward in a soft, racy Margaux that will drink beautifully upon release. The radiance of the vintage comes through nicely, and yet there is a good bit of freshness as well. The blend is 60% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Carmenère.

The second wine of Brane-Cantenac, the 2018 Baron De Brane is a blend of 60% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Carménère brought up in 25% new French oak. Another beautiful second wine (the vintage is packed with truly thrilling second wines), it offers a rounded, sexy profile as well as terrific notes of blackcurrants, spice box, and earth, with hints of graphite. Layered, silky and pure on the palate, it's an already delicious effort to drink over the coming decade or more.

Ruby in color, the wine is spicy, fruity, floral, forward, medium-bodied and already showing off its sweet cherry charms. Enjoy this while awaiting the sublime 2018 to develop.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Baron de Brane is scented of dried herbs, damp soil and fallen leaves over warm raspberries, kirsch and blackcurrants. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, herbal and chewy with a lively lift.

Tight and polished with a beautiful center palate and density. Full-bodied, ripe and polished. Really delicious fruit to this. Strawberries and currants abound. Wonderful second wine of Brane.

Full of character, this show what a great second wine can achieve. Its juicy dark fruits mingle with rosemary and menthol notes, adding layers of complexity to the wine.
