A blend from the Castillon region of Bordeaux, as well as grapes from Monbousquet and Pavie that didn’t make the cut, the 2017 Pavie Esprit de Pavie checks as 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a sappy, spicy, red fruit-driven profile as well as medium body, silky tannin, and notable purity of fruit. It gives a touch of Pavie without the cost.

The 2017 Esprit de Pavie is a terrific entry-level wine from the Perse family. Succulent cherry and plum fruit is pushed forward in a juicy, plump red that incorporates fruit from various Perse properties.

Medium-bodied with early drinking appeal, round, soft textures and sweet, ripe red berries. If you enjoy earthy, fruity pleasures drink this on release but expect little, if any, length or depth.

The 2017 Esprit de Pavie, which comes under Bordeaux AC, was affected by the frost, more than 50% of the vines in fact. It has a high-toned, pastille-like bouquet with blueberry and raspberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with rustic tannin, simple and quite firm in the mouth with a light peppery finish.

Esprit de Pavie was hit badly by the frosts, and they lost 50% of production. Composed of 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Esprit de Pavie gives gorgeous crushed blackberries and black plums notions with touches of spice cake and potpourri. The palate is medium-bodied with nice plush tannins and a good amount of spicy fruit, finishing on a floral note.
