Abundant notes of sandy, loamy soil, forest floor, black currants, cherries, and unsmoked high-class cigar tobacco jump from the glass of this complex, perfumed Pessac-Leognan. Medium-bodied and lighter than many 2000s, it has resolved all of its tannin, and appears to have reached full maturity. This wine has such superb balance that I suspect it will last another 8-10 years.... Drink 2010-2020.

Tasted at the château. A deep garnet core. The nose has far more vigour than the 2001 Domaine de Chevalier, much more lift with blackberry, cedar and just a hint of cassis. Still quite backward: this certainly needs time to open up. The palate is full-bodied with lovely balanced and acidity, very focused and harmonious, a wine that to be honest shows up both the 2001 and even the 2005. Great poise and delineation, very natural towards the pert finish with blackberries and a touch of bilberry and black cherries. This is a lovely Domaine de Chevalier with great potential. Feminine on the finish. Drink 2012-2020+ Tasted May 2008.

The finest Domaine de Chevalier in over a decade, this opaque purple-colored effort exhibits abundant character with its striking aromatic profile of burning coals, plums, currants, tobacco, and spice box. Some oak is present, but it is well-integrated in this rich, medium to full-bodied, elegant, pure 2000. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025.

Subtle and already delicious. This is lovely. Loads of chocolate and berry character in this young red. Full-bodied, with soft tannins and a medium-long finish. Best after 2007. 7,500 cases made.

Voici le meilleur Domaine de Chevalier des dix dernières années. Opaque et pourpre de robe, le 2000 se distingue par sa très grande générosité, que traduisent parfaitement ses stupéfiantes senteurs de charbon, de prune, de groseille, de tabac et de boîte à épices. L'ensemble, moyennement corsé, conserve, malgré sa grande richesse, une élégance et une pureté de bon aloi. Il est marqué par le chêne neuf, mais son boisé est fondu. A boire entre 2008 et 2025.

Made in an elegant style, with the oak more restrained than in previous examples, this deep ruby/purple-colored offering exhibits notes of roasted herbs, vanillin, red and black currants, wet stones, and tobacco. It will undoubtedly develop more complexity as it ages. This medium-bodied, beautifully concentrated Domaine de Chevalier reveals moderate tannin in the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2020.
