Château La Pointe - Pomerol 2015

The color is deep, opaque and the disc is purple, shiny. The nose offers aromas of black fruits, cherries, blackberries, wild blueberries, then with agitation, some floral notes, wallflowers, violets. The appetizer is remarkably well-crafted with sweet, velvety tannins, then the mid-palate becomes denser with a greedy and tense expression. The finale ends in harmony, with a palate and a nice freshness. These crisp and refined tannins, the persistent notes of fruit and the natural elegance of the balances make this 2015 vintage a magnificent expression of the great terroirs of Pomerol.

The 2015 La Pointe is missing a little definition on the nose at first, but a few swirls of the glass and it reveals lovely black fruit laced with crushed stone, truffle and melted tar scents. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannin, a mixture of red and black fruit laced with sea salt and a touch of spice, leading to a refined and elegant finish that the château simply was not producing a decade earlier. Excellent. Anticipated maturity: 2021 - 2045.

The 2015 La Pointe is an attractive, juicy Pomerol to drink now and over the next handful of years. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, licorice, menthol and tobacco build as this fleshy, succulent Pomerol shows off its racy personality. The 2015 has turned out beautifully. There is certainly plenty to like.

Lovely chocolate, walnut, black-olive and berry aromas follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a gorgeous, juicy and savory aftertaste. Luscious and pretty. Drink in 2020.

Smudgy mid crimson. Peppery/dusty dark fruit. Dry and cedary on the palate but surprisingly juicy on the finish. Slightly abrupt finish but lots of smooth pleasure already.

The 2015 La Pointe is a blend of 84% Merlot and 16% Cabernet Franc, picked between 27 September for the younger vines for the second wines, and 1 October for the heart of the Merlot, the Cabernet picked 8 and 12 October. Eric Monnoret told me that the 2015 was matured in 50% new oak. It has a comparatively flamboyant bouquet compared to recent vintages of La Pointe, with opulent red berry fruit, kirsch, cassis and patina of tar. The palate is medium-bodied, firm in the mouth at the moment, quite structured, the oak nicely integrated with a slightly savory finish. This is a robust La Pointe, quite spicy in the mouth with a long aftertaste. It will gain more harmony during its élevage. Drink 2020-2040

It's difficult to find value in Pomerol, but it can be done. Medium-bodied, fresh, plummy and floral, this wine finishes with dark, red fruits, cocoa and a little zing of spice.

Fragrant, zesty, dark fruit aroma and flavour. Fresh on the palate but with an opulence. Tannins finely honed – lighter framed but very pure and precise. Should be good value.2021-2030

The 2015 La Pointe is dark and succulent to the core, if not super-complex. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, new leather and spice are pushed forward in a tasty, fruit-driven Pomerol that will drink well with minimal cellaring.

Dunkles Granat, recht satt in der Mitte, rubiner Rand. Hoch reifes, tendenziell kompottiges, leicht leimiges Bouquet zeigend. Im Gaumen mit ansprechender Körperfülle aufwartend, auch hier wieder hoch reife, süss ausstrahlende Fruchtnoten aufweisend. Fast gross, aber auch etwas easy. 17/20 2023 – 2039

This is really tannic and structured with loads of ripe tannins and fruit. Full body. Massive for this estate yet agile. Best ever. 84% merlot and 16% cabernet franc.

On the darker side, with plum and blackberry notes, but still has some grace, showing hints of black tea and incense weaving through. Has some wood left to soak up, so this should put on weight as it integrates.—J.M.

Nez fumé, épicé. Très jolie approche au palais avec une texture suave, parfumée, et une finale boisée.
