The Dictador Rum was developed towards the end of the 18th century in Colombia by Severo Arango y Ferro, who arrived from Spain to strengthen the collection of taxes, fell in love with Colombian rum and sought to expand his business throughout the region. In 1913, one of his descendants, Don Julio Arango y Parra, created the Destilería Colombiana. All his life he sought to become the best producer of rum in the Caribbean Zone while preserving the quality and the know-how of Rhum Dictador. Since 2009, this company, thanks to the arrival of new investors, is recognized internationally as one of the jewels of the Colombian rum industry. Based in Cartagena, Colombia, Dictador takes advantage of its geographical location, recognized by Unesco, to choose the best sugar canes produced all over South America
