The 2013 Grand Corbin Despagne is intriguing. Deceptively medium in body, the 2013 possesses lovely depth and persistence. Savory herbs game and dried flowers add complexity to the pungent finish. Although a bit heavy and wild in style, the 2013 is not at all lacking in complexity nor personality. It should be an intriguing wine to follow over the next decade-plus

The Grand Corbin-Despagne has an attractive, considered bouquet with plump red fruit, vanilla and violets that blossoms nicely in the glass. The oak here is well used. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, fresh cassis and blackcurrant fruit with a nicely poised finish. This is a good effort from the estate and especially in context of the vintage.
