Medium bodied with a plethora of fresh, ripe berries, earth, flowers and stone, this wine is the best the estate has produced since Sylvie Cazes took over. There is an attractive softness to the elegant finish. The bottles now have a new label, which history buffs may be interested to know is a redesign of their label from the 1920s.

The 2015 Chauvin, which now belongs to Sylvie Cazes and her family, has a focused, precise bouquet, restrained in style but delivering plenty of tensile red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannin on the entry. There is quite a lot of new oak to be absorbed here, although there appears to be adequate fruit underneath and there is a pleasant licorice-tinged finish that bodes well. This will be worth checking out once in bottle.

The 2015 Chauvin is a big, powerful wine. Smoke, grilled herbs, crème de cassis, licorice and lavender give the 2015 much of its distinctive brooding personality. Today, the Chauvin comes across as a bit raw and not fully put together, but it does offer good depth and plenty of potential. Tasted two times.

A very minerally red with blueberry, chalk and berry aromas and flavors. Full body, salty, chalky and stony character. Impressive.
