Calvados 15 years - Castle of Breuil - 41 °
At Château du Breuil, the apple is the center of the world. The mild and humid climate, the chalky soil of the Pays d'Auge allow the Château du Breuil to have the ideal conditions to successfully exploit the 22,000 apple trees it has around the Château. The know-how and the experience are the strengths of Château du Breuil, who prefers to give priority to quality rather than quantity. And when the cider has reached its ultimum, distillation can begin. The distillation campaign takes place at the beginning of winter, until the following summer. To obtain one liter of Calvados 100% alcohol, about 27 kg of apples are needed, or a little more than 20 liters of cider with 5% alcohol. Unlike Calvados "AOC", calvados "AOC Pays d'Auge" comes exclusively from the double distillation of cider produced from apples from the Pays d'Auge region. The Calvados obtained is thus more refined, thanks to the superior quality of the apples produced by the soil specific to this region, and also by the elimination, during the two distillations, of the less noble parts of the alcohol. At Château du Breuil, is distilled exclusively from Calvados "AOC Pays d'Auge". Classified as a historic monument, the Château has been entirely restored by the current owners, who have distilled spirits for three generations.
