Nénin - Castle Nénin - Pomerol 2004

Beginning Flowering: June 7, 2004 End Flowering: June 14, 2004 Mi Véraison: August 13 to 18, 2004 Climate in general temperate with a little fear in summer. But June and September had temperatures above the thirty-year average. September benefited the maturation of the grapes and the concentration was beautiful when the yields, important on this vintage, were mastered upstream. • Reds: tannic structure, roundness, fruit aromas superimposed on this rich and complex set. The return to classicism.

Tasted at Bordeaux Index annual 10-year on tasting from an ex-château bottle. The Château Nenin '04 has a more outgoing personality on the nose with dark chocolate and truffle interlacing the ebullient red berry fruit. The oak here is nicely integrated but perhaps just a little conspicuous after ten years. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins. There is good tension here, very linear and quite rigid - a Pomerol with backbone and assertiveness. I suspect that it has something more to give with another 4-6 years bottle age. Tasted March 2014. (90+ points)

Corps très convenable, texture serrée, tannin un peu austère, note de truffe plus marquée que d'habitude qui étoffe le tanin.

This structured Pomerol reveals classic sweet cherry and kirsch liqueur-like notes intermixed with hints of minerals and flowers. Lovely ripeness, medium body, and a restrained but noble style suggest it will drink well for 10-15 years. Also tasted: 2004 Fugue de Nenin (86)

Delicate and reserved, with tobacco, blackberry and chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Best after 2009.

A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, Nenin’s 2004 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color as well as a structured, crisp style with noticeable acidity, and good, but uninspiring levels of concentration and complexity. Attractive in a low-brow manner, it should last for 10-12 years.

Bright red-ruby. Wonderfully sweet aromas of raspberry, coffee and smoke. Supple and sweet in the mouth, with lively flavours of crunchy dark berries and fruity chocolate. Finishes with firm but sweet tannins. This is technically very low in acidity but shows no shortage of vivacity.

(Primeur) Quite racy. well presented, open fruit. Gently fragrant. Sweet ripeness on attack, layered texture, clean and direct. Lively, fresh finish.

75% merlot, 25% cabernet franc.

Very attractive aromas of blackberries and tobacco follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. Well done. Long. Builds on the palate.
